Whole-home or essential circuits
A whole-home generator powers everything: heating, kitchen, laundry, the works, as if the outage never happened. An essential-circuits setup covers the things you can't go without, such as the refrigerator, lights, internet, a well pump, garage door, or medical equipment, with a smaller and more affordable unit.

The automatic transfer switch
The transfer switch is the heart of a standby system. When utility power drops, it disconnects your home from the grid and starts the generator, usually within seconds. When power returns, it switches back and lets the generator cool down and shut off. You don't have to do anything.
It also keeps your generator from feeding power back onto the utility lines, which protects line workers and your equipment. This is exactly the kind of work that has to be done to code, and it's where a careful installation matters most.
Natural gas or propane
Most home standby generators run on natural gas or propane. Natural gas connects to your existing utility supply, so there's no tank to refill. Propane works well for homes without a gas line, but it requires a properly sized tank.
Generators draw a lot of gas while they run, and some homes need a larger gas meter or a new supply line to keep up. We check this during the site visit so it's part of the plan from day one, not a surprise halfway through the project.
Permits, placement, and inspection
Standby generator installations require a permit and an inspection. We handle the electrical permit and inspection for you, so the finished system is documented and up to code.
Placement matters too. Manufacturers and local codes set minimum clearances from windows, doors, vents, and property lines, and the unit needs a level, stable pad. We'll choose a spot that meets those requirements while keeping noise and appearance in mind for you and your neighbors.

What size generator do I need for my home?
It depends on what you want to power during an outage. We do a load calculation of your home and help you decide between whole-home coverage and essential circuits only, so the generator is neither undersized nor oversized.
Do I need a permit to install a standby generator?

Should my generator run on natural gas or propane?
